I went to a mortage broker to get a refinance home loan. He spent hours on getting me a good deal. I signed a bunch of paper with him, but I never finalize the deal. However, I found a much better deal with someone else. I finalized and closed my deal with the new broker. Now, the first broker wants $500 for his time working on my loan and wasting his time. He said that if I don’t pay him, he’ll put a lien on my house. Should i just pay him?

Also Assume this:
(I don’t have and don’t know what I signed)
Even if I signed a contract to agree to pay him $500, aren’t there any protection under California law (DRE) for the barrowers?

so a couple of months ago my mom got into a little bit of trouble with her mortgage payment and she knew i recently nannied over in Maryland being payed 1200 dollars, so she told me about her situation asking me if i could help her pay her 500 dollar mortgage bill assuring and promising me that she would pay me back within that month but at the moment it has been 3-5 months now and still not 1 penny has been payed back into my savings account and i am starting to get aggravated as i am trying to get a new cell phone and maybe a car which i seem to be about 500 dollars short of at the moment (my dad possibly helping to pay a few hundred knowing about the situation) and am starting to look into legal advice such as a lawyer, speaking to her boss at work, and maybe speaking with the family that gave me the 1200 dollar check in the first place, if you guys could get back to me whenever you can that would be fantastic thank you very much,
