Reinventingmyself asked:

Does being on unemployment hurt your credit and chances of having a home mortage loan someday? Does it have anything to do with your credit?

No. Being on unemployment will likely disqualify you for getting a loan only if you’re still on unemployment when you’re asking for the loan. Mortage companies and banks look for how long you’ve been employed, your ability to pay back the loan and how much money you’ve been able to save on your own. All of those factors contribute to how much above Prime you’ll be paying in interest.

The previous answer looks good. If you continue to pay your bills on time and don’t “max-out” your credit cards and maintain the same debt/income ratios being on unemployment won’t affect your credit.

however, employment history is a factor in getting a mortgage as well. They will ask about work history for the past two years or so then ask about previous employment if it was less than two years.

if you still maintain good credit, and you have a steady job at the time you apply, you should be OK.

Nope. Getting a mortgage will have to do with the type of income you have when you actually apply for that mortgage.
